Winterport Woman’s Club Scholarship

WWC sponsors a scholarship to a Hampden Academy senior from Winterport/Frankfort every year. The application for this scholarship is available through the guidance office. Selection is based on community service and is determined by the school’s scholarship committee.

GFWC Maine Elder Abuse Essay Contest

The GFWC Maine and Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention (MCEAP) Scholarship Essay Contest is an annual high school competition for seniors. The contest aims to raise awareness about elder abuse, with winners announced around World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (June 15). The scholarship is totally funded by donations from local GFWC Maine clubs.

Key Contest Details

  • Eligibility: Maine high school graduating seniors who will attend a college or certification program full-time in the upcoming academic year.

  • Essay Requirement: A 500-650 word essay responding to the prompt: “What is elder abuse and what would be your solution?”

  • Submission Deadline: Materials are due by May 1.

  • Awards: $50 for county and $1,000 for the top state winner.

  • Submission Process: Requires a completed application, high school transcript, and a college acceptance letter.

How to Apply
Interested Maine students should check with their local high school guidance office or contact a local GFWC Maine club. (See application button on the right). The contest encourages applicants to explore the seriousness of elder abuse and potential solutions within their communities.

Maude McKensie Scholarship

  • Senior High School students from Winterport may also apply for the GFWC Maine Maude McKenzie Scholarship. Application must be accompanied by:

  • High School Transcript

  • Recommendation letter from guidance counselor

  • Essay by student as to why he or she should be considered for the scholarship

  • Letter of acceptance from a college or university

  • All materials must be sent to GFWC Maine Scholarship Chair by April 1st
